Mechanic 100 questions

Okay, finally got my first mechanic to 100 and am exploring repairing components, and I have a couple of questions:

Looking at engines/weapons, if I can repair it I have a "REPAIR (X car parts)" link. Clicking on that link repairs the item.

If there are no CP repairs I can do, I have an "Upgrade" link (or [Upgrade] if the item is at 100%).  Clicking on that link tells me the Serious/Normal damage on the item.

Question #1: If the component has normal damage, shouldn't I be able to repair that with CP?

Question #2: Is there any way I can find out the serious damage on a component BEFORE I spend CP to repair it?  The Upgrade menu seems to be the only way to view that info, and it's not available until *after* I've spent the CP.

Thanks,
TMO

As far as I know, in scav, that serious damage is one of those "hidden" unknowns. There is a little bit of risk repairing because you don't know how high your mech will be able to repair it. After repairing a lot of items at different percentages of damage, you know start to know what items are not worth the CPs to repair.

Right now, my cut off point is 60%. That usually gives me a repaired item around 85-90%. My last risk repair was a 40% 3.2LV8 which I repaired to 80%. (remember that regardless of damage, each items completed repair can have a different result). Perhaps that 80% V8 could be used for a muscle car (buccy preference) on travels. You could still use it on scouts (SS area), but if you need escape speed, you may not make it (Found out that difficulty in BL and SV). This is where player experience and skill is needed to compensate for damaged chassis.

These are the things that increase the difficulty level and make scav what it is, a much harder and higher risk version of normal mode.

K.. I can deal with that.  Just didn't want to be missing something.  I've also noticed that on the component screen it will often say "REPAIR (X car parts)", but when I actually click on the link, it uses X-1 CP.  And I've verified by checking my lockup that it did use 1 less CP than it claimed.  My suspicion is that these are the items that later have normal damage that I can't repair, as if the predicted repair formula and the actual repair formula are slightly different and produce rounding errors.

Thanks!

if you have damaged gear that can be repaired, click on the upgrade button while it is installled on chassis still. you can't CHR or upgrade it, but it will tell you how much serious damage there is and if it is worth repairing.

I only repair stuff that has 9% or less serious. so that giveds me gear from 91% to 100% rating.
