As previously discussed, the new system of obtaining camps is to buy them directly rather than going thru a survey+auction system. Here's the prices for now (subject to updates in future): you pay more (+25%) for camps that are close to a town and a lot more (+50%) for very close.
You get to pick the hex tile to locate on - it must be currently neutral and at least 2 tiles away from any existing open-PvP camps. The base fame is assigned by me. As a general rule, camps closer to towns will have higher base fame. Also, camps close to SS/EL tend to have the highest base fame; those close to GW come next highest, and those close to other towns have lower base fames. This offsets against camp size, of course: basically, if you want a huge camp, you'll have to work with a lower base fame. The base fames are very much based on the town you're close to: those closest to SS get approx 400, those close to GW get approx 300 and those close to BL get approx 270. At the same time, it's not possible to get very large camps at SS. Camps typically have two roads to towns (although some may have only one, if they're not close to any 'official' road between two towns). The closest town will be the 'primary' one and this also means that you can drive directly to other camps who have the same primary town. If you have only one road to a town, you can request a road to another nearby town as your second one; this will cost $1m per 100km. EDIT: a Morgan camp type has been added. This is the same size and cost as Gateway Medium EDIT: a Tiny Gateway camp type has been added. Its cost is 5m/6.25m/7.5m. I'm happy to create new Tiny camp types elsewhere if they're required. |

I have just updated the 'locational map' page so that it shows resources (for camps) as well as wilderness maps:
http://www.dark-wind.com/locationalMap.php The letters w, fo, fu, sc, st indicate resources, with size of the letter proportional to the amount of the resource. If you want to see this without being cluttered by wilderness maps: http://www.dark-wind.com/locationalMap.php?hide=maps Or if you want to see it without being cluttered by resources: http://www.dark-wind.com/locationalMap.php?hide=resources |

Please note that direct purchasing of camps is being stopped for now, while the new camp wars system is being developed. If anyone was planning a camp purchase, please let me know and we can discuss what to do for you. |

Camp purchases are continuing similarly to before. The prices above are still correct.
When you buy a camp, you will get to choose the hextile. A number of rules apply: - it has to be in the correct region for the map you have paid for - it cannot be on a road, a town, or a village or other special resource such as a radio tower or abandoned factory (basically, any tile with an icon on) - it cannot be on a tile with a unique special name. - it cannot be on a tile that a PvP camp already controls. (We will be adding a system for tiles to revert to neutral from time to time). The hextiles are sized approx 50 km, by the way - so your 'secondary' town road will cost $500k per tile. I can also now be specific about distances: - within 1 or 2 tiles is 'very near' a town - 3 or 4 tiles is 'near' - 5 or more is 'wilderness' |
