Roseann Grange stood up at the sound of the 4L engine pulling into the yard and walked to the door to see a bullet-ridden buccaneer pull up, smoking slightly. Upon seeing Andrea Merritt exit, she took another look at the car and shouted, "Didn't you leave for Texan in a voyager? And what in hell did you do to this car?"
Merritt replied, "Not mine. A friendly bandit gave it to me because I asked nicely. And promised to stop shooting him. I was rolling into town when a bunch of bandits jumped me--this, a vamp, some others--even a tractor! But I picked this out and thought that if I could drive it home, the boss would probably forgive me for abandoning my voy in the wilderness. Not that it was easy. Took me several hundred turns to lose most of his companions, and I busted through the front armor running over hills. "I finally got rid of everyone but the cutlass and vampire, and drove around a valley until they both got stuck. Hopped out and started shooting at the vamp, but when I broke through his armor it seems he found new inspiration and got free. By the time I got the voy started up he was on my tail. Finally cleared a ridge, but not before that HMG tore my armor to shreds. One more hit and I might not have made it. Still, it seems that the bullet in his gut made him somewhat reluctant to pursue and I easily shook him while keeping the cutlass in view. Scared him into surrendering the car with the rifle, but whenever it wiggled I thought I was in for a repeat of that striker. But I got him." As they walked back into the gang's makeshift camp, Grange mentioned "Latest news from BL is that they nabbed a cutlass up there today too. What are the odds?"
