Anyone with OSX problems?

I'm trying to deal with a problem that one player is having: the game crashes when they hit the 'Login' button. Is anyone else on OSX having this problem?

Yesterday, if I launched the app, enter my pw & hit login, it crashes. If I opened the jar file (the updater) and entered my login & pw there it launched fine.

Not sure if that helps. :-)

Just tried the first way though and it worked fine...

I am suddenly having this problem today. The .jar file doesn't help.

...not being able to log in largely caused the death of two of my gladiators, and the injury of two others. That sucks...

...and I can't play. That sucks even more.

I logged in fine this morning and played a scout encounter. I set up the gladiator combat on the website. I left the computer for a couple of minutes, when I came back the client had crashed. I have not been able to log back in since then, as it crashes at the press of the login button each time.

Edit: I would download the game again and re-install, but hitting the download link brings me to a screen telling me to sign up, with no obvious way around it.

Edit 2: Did this:

you can edit  darkwind/client_params.txt
set engineVersion: 140  to  engineVersion: 0

this forces a re-download

Still doesn't work.

Anything here, Sam? I haven't gotten a single word even in confirmation that you have seen this and are working on it, or that you got my PM. (Maybe you didn't, I sent a new one today.)

I'm still out of the game.

I guess the decision has been to ignore this. Oh, well. Consider my paid month when I couldn't play a donation to whatever project you have going on that you've deemed more important.

I will contact Sam for you and send you a direct PM when I get a response. I will also see about having your subscription extended since you have not been able to play. If you have any other immediate questions, you can PM me.

Sorry - yeah, as Xman says, extending the subscription isn't a problem.

Did you try downloading the game again? You need to be logged on to do that. Your logon had presumably timed out when you hit the download link the last time.

(I had to make it force you to be logged on to do the download after getting a DDOS attack a few years ago)

I found the Gladiator event that crashed. I restored the two characters that died and the injuries to the third one.

Thanks for the replies.

I've tried several times to re-download. The download link either sends me to a page telling me that I have to sign up (I am already signed in) or, if I re-sign in immediately before going to the download, sends me to the forum front page.

Tried again in another browser, and the download link sends me to a blank page with still no download.

Are you accessing the client as administrator mode? If not, what you are describing has happened to me before. Once I ran things in admin mode, I had no more problems. Just right click on the DW client, the pop up window gives you the admin mode options there. See if this works for you.

I have put the download into a public link (so you won't need to be logged in). I will PM it to you (since this forum is publicly visible).

Here is the latest crash log from me. It happened right after I opened DW:Tactical, then switched focus to the chat window.

I couldnt stand the constant crashing on OSX. Now I'm running Darkwind on a Virtual Machine with windows 10. It works fine, except that the mouse sensitivity is way High.

Check your AV. Try disabling it and see if you have the same issue.

Good idea but still freezing...it seems to be something to do with registering for events

The AV may be keeping certain files from being downloaded. It freezes because it cannot find the files. These files include maps, tracks and arenas.

You may need to uninstall client. Keep your AV disabled, then reinstall. Then try using the client and join an event. This should solve your issue.

Tried that still freezing...after registering for a race/combat/deathrace only..

Force quitting resets preferences which is frustrating too...

I will have to let Sam know of your issue and see what he recommends for troubleshooting.

Kinda resurrected this old thread, but I feel there is still some need to follow up.

I run Dark Wind on two platforms, and I find that on the PC, the only time the game crashes is when I am running it in full screen mode. But on my mac, its always in the lobby screen and it can be ok for awhile, but if I click on an event, or gang button it could lock up. Just freezes.

If I am scouting, the game could lock up while I am waiting for a scouting event to process, but if I can join a game, usually with in the first minute of logging on, I can play no problem until the event is over and I go back to the lobby where I usually crash right away.

Still think its an AV Issue?

I'm running on OS X - been doing so all along - haven't had an issue in a long while. I'm up to 10.13 and no problems now either...

Have you run Permissions Repair lately?
*jimmylogan*

Okay - a couple of days ago the client would die as soon as I logged in. I would start the client, it would load, I would type my password and then it would crash out.

I loaded the 'lobby jar' app instead and logged in from there - all has been well since.

So I mention that, SGJ, to say try running that once and see if that helps...

Got the login figured out, but the game crashes whenever starting an event.

I'm running 10.13.4 - haven't logged in in a while, but just tried and spectated no problem. Have you tried spectating something?

Ill try  now

EDIT:

Nope, can't spectate either.
I don't know code, but this seems to be on every dump log.
