And other items.

How many of us are active scavvers now?

I can think of 8-10 with 5-6 of us most active currently. Feal that if ammo was more avalibel more would jump on board. Or we could recruit more players with our ability to offer starter gifts like we do in reg.

Gizmet has started Scavving now- he's a good guy who I am trying to advise on things- just don't have enough chassis/ ammo/ weapons to help him on his way.

It's a shame that Goat Starer has gone AWOL recently, as he's by far the most experienced Scavver playing- and also holds a lot of sway with SAM to help get some of the changes that we all want.

I am pretty sure that both Snipe, and Sarge would start Scavving if the ammo inbalance was tweaked a bit- and then probably others would dip in too.

I've started as well, just coming up to two weeks in. All I can say so far is thank god I did a large number of town events in the early days.

My own thought on the ammo thing is - this is scav, things are tough out there and falling apart - why would anyone be making paint sprays etc etc

I think that perhaps that the number of types weapons available in scav should be reduced and things like HMG become very rare loot. Not sure if this is possible.

I just started a Scav gang myself.

The ammo crafting thing could work for both regular DW and SCAV DW. If you wanted to go a step further, you could craft better ammos like AP rounds.

I guess in order for me to tell *SAM* to get on it, I would want to know if he's actively working on DW2 or not. If he is, he shouldn't waste his time adding new features to this game. If he's not, then what the hell? :)

Im hoping he is working on Into The Ruins.  And that it will be a modular addition that can be ported or linked to Advanced DW or updated DW or whatever it would be calles.

But what is added to scav and played, serves as a testing platform for features that can be put into DW2/AdvDW without us asking for it later (again)

It feels like Sam is on vacation though.  Not sure if it is work, DW development, or play but I havent heard a peep since....  I guess the gang specific skins posting...

Anyone know whats on Sams plate as of late?

I have been scaving for a few weeks, only just started playing at all about three months ago now. I have to say I love scav, adds a lot more.... Oh nuts to the game. Makes it scary to go on scouts, not that normal DW didn't, but this is a whe other ball of wax.

Only two things I have "REAL" issues with;

1) Ammo, not enough of the stuff I actually use. (MG, HMG, MMG) I got a lot of OJ, SM, and FOJ, but no weapons to use them in.

2) Mech training. I can't fix the weapon I find, engines I get, or chassis I loot, so I can't scout for the weapons I need to find, engines I fight for, or chassis I kill for.

MG, HMG, MMG ammo can be won in ANC and town events.

As discussed in a different thread- you need to remove most of your gangers to get new ones.
There is no point in having a Cycle ganger, and a mech of 20 will take AGES to train up.
If you need any MG ammo, or you want to scout with me- let me know.
Good luck.

We should set up a mega scav scout one day soon!

I skilled my mech from 20 and now she is pushing 90 if my ammo holds out long enuf I'll hit 100 mark in a day or 2

How do you get them up so far? I can't get a single point because I am stuck in town and not getting ammo.

I run 9 ganger scouts (4-5) car solo scouts using what ever ammo i have at the time lost a bunch of cars and gangers to start, but gained 2-6 skill each time.
Todays scout sucke lost my best LG and best gunner but got 3 mech points now skilled to 88

Lol...see that's the issue. I have two cars if I am lucky and no weapons except MGs, while my opponent gets three to four cars, HMG, GG, RLs. I have no real chance.

I went about it slightly different. Here is my method. Meant to be done in order 1 by 1.

1) etablish a food and water stockpile so you dont have to grind town events. --- Brun, Boon, or I can probably throw a month supply at you. We have alot.

2) Concentrate on Amature Night. You are seeking primarilly a Chase rwith a 4L in 90% or better condition. Preferably 95% or better. As a secondary goal you will want to collect some of those "mo guns than yo mutha" symphonys for the HMGs and ammo from scrapping the HMGs.. Other cars like Biters and PUs are ok but not critical at this juncture.

3) once you have a 4L pho, armor it 12 front. 14 or 15 sides and rear. 4 or 5 top/bottom. This is your runner scout trainer. Lighter is better unless u get shot, and more armor means getting shot more due to being slower. My runner is 12F, 14 R/L/Re, 3T, 4B.

4) obtain from someone (Brun is flush right now) FUEL cans. You will want about 25 to 30 cans to get a 50 scout.

...continued

5) hire (or use an existing) 20 scout and make him drive your runner pointlessly back and forth from SS to Elms. (there are no user defined courier runs so odds are you will have no reason to drive other than to milk skill gains). This will consume 12 fuel units per leg so if you have a 4 unit tank, you will need to load 3 cans. If you have a 2 unit tank it will take 4 cans. OR loan the car to Boon, Me, or Brun and we can resize it to 24 units for you which will cover a round trip.

Each round trip tends to grant you 5 scout skill gain. Even if you truce, and even if there is no encounter at all. Although it may only give you 4 skill. But I averaged 3 there, 2 back for a total of 5.

SS to GW did NOT produce a better skill gain so limit training runs to Elms to conserve fuel. In many cases you will need to learn new escape methods. You can not rely on speed in scav. You will need to think like a vet who enjoys trying out new or unconventional ideas. You will need to understand what I call "low speed escape tactics". You will need to know how to bugger the AI through maneuverability limitations, terrain, and occasionally sheer stupidity and audacity. If you have never played "ring around the rosey" at 15m with an enemy and then managed to still escape, or run out to 350m without exceeding 45 Mph, or learned a few other bits of trickery, these training runs may prove frustrating

6) continue the semi-pointless scout skill grinding runs back and forth until you get a scout skill of 50 or better. Then hire a backup scout and start training him the same way in case the trained guy gets waxxed.

Now you should be able to scout more successfully and be able to train up a Mech. A 50 scout should balance out the odds a little better so it isnt 5 Kerns vs a Sonic...

Although I have to say, I still face superior firepower quite often. I take out 4 cars with 8 gangers. I generally pull even numbers 3v3 or 4v4 or sometimes they have 1 more car than me. But where im mounting Car Rifles and MMLs primarily on my Chevalier, Symphony, Pickup, Phoenix team, the enemy seems to have primarilly HMG, MMG and RL (but rarely drops ammo for these!)

Paint spray is essential on a PU by the way. It has saved me more than once. On a smaller car it isnt worth wasting the space but Scav is about trying new things. U may not use PS in normal, but desperation tends to breed a "use what u have" motive that really teaches you alot about alternate fighting methods

I dont go out in a 1.6L merc with a MG+MML combo in regular DW. But in Scav I have (and lived).

Well... on second though, I might. Ive been known to try stupid ideas before. But anyway...

I started a little different when I first stated going out to scout I'd take 1 pho MMG MG combo and a low armored car with no guns filled with peds. Play duck and cover staying out of firing arch while pealing armor. Combat car would soften and pass the first car to peds while occupying the 2 car (traders letting runner run) after knocking out or killing crew of first car board it and your other car. You now have 3 non demos use there guns in your new car to finish fight.

Expect losses of peds so just get some HG guys after you get some cars kick or pick a new job for surviving guys.

As for scout skill I run with a 30 skill and Do Not recommend using anything less or you will get hammered by hyenas. Supposed to be weaker gang but 2 razorbacks twin RL truck Butterfly II and Biter Vs your 2-3 cars. With there 180 turning and super sniper shots from 100M please  just don't even try it

Ok, move to newbie, but there is no newbie scav section. Anyway we could have one created?

Just a thought.

If I feel energetic I will try and write up a walk through in newbie forum on my days off. We should each add our own points to it for alternate methods. Then someone who knows how to do the wiki could move/condense it there since there really is no scav walkthroughs.

It took me a long time playing normal, wondering why I sucked at scav to realize how to play it semi-efficiently. Scav is more for vets than for noobs. That was my mustake at first. I made a scav gang when I first started. It took me something like 9 months to figure out how to actually PLAY scav without just "noob-slaughtering" my gang every time I played it.

The most efficient one would be to do it as Wiki right away.
I have added and edited that "hints from other players" section whenever I have remembered.

Thought that walkthrough needs own page.
