The tavern fell silent as a huge bear-like mutant burst through the door. A creature with massive claws bristling from each paw.
"Santa Claws!" exclaimed Dex. "Good to see ya round these parts again buddy!" But the mutie wasn't happy, his face remained in an angry snarl. "Has anyone seen my manservant Roo? Mr Roo Dolph? He's pushed it too far this time!" An equally strange mutant, this one a spindly thing with a massive red nose, stood up, pushing over the table in his shadowy corner of the bar. "Yeah, I'm here! And that's right, I've had enough of your crap! You and all the rest of the gang. Laughing. Calling me names! Not letting me join in your games!" "Alright then, if it's war you want, you can have it!" roared the bear creature. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- OOC: this year's slay ride will take the form of a squad-v-squad combat. Santa vs. Roo Dolph. This will be for muscle cars only, with no mortars, lasers, or RGMs allowed. Weapons skills capped at 80. One car each. Spot prizes for 'best dressed car', 'most awesome feat of awesomeness' and other things yet to be dreamed up. Overall victory condition will be killing the opposing leader (i.e. Roo or Santa). Please vote for your preferred time! Please also post here which side you'd prefer to join. We may have to move some people if there's unbalanced sides. I'm in! Put me down on the side of the red-nosed guy. Santa is the biggest mutant there is (there should be no fat people after an apocalypse,) and I plan on removing a few of his organs to get him down to size.

But all joking aside, this has the making of a lopsided event. May I suggest that once we know who all the participants will be, have both team captains take alternating picks for players they wish to have on their side. Seems fair and reasonable to me, but either way, there is gonna be a lot more RED in this event than just Roo's nose!!! |

Im guessing this is subs only but I do have a question on times.
Is 2400 the beginning of the day or the end? As in... 0000 (which is also 2400) or is it 60 seconds past 2359? Im assuming the latter. Not voting since I probably cant attend as an unsubbed player, but I would like to spectate if the time is in my field of options |

I consider this as a special "For Fun" event. Total PvP, no grudges to be held afterwards (as long as proper "rules" are followed). So as long as someone doesn't sit there shooting up friendlies just because they "don't like them", then all should be good. But I'm also going to play this one like any other player event, expendable car and crew, because you never know what might happen. |

I'm just curious about something. Original rules state there is a cap limit on gunnery skills at 80. What about driving and psionics?
A 300 driver with tons of Defensive Driver spec could definitely be seen as an unfair advantage, same with a slew of pyro psionics or what ever. I'd like to see that there's an even playing field, if our gunners are limited to 80 skill, that should apply to ALL skills. |

For this one occassion, are you suspending the world as we know it and using the "snow/ice" map for this event, regardless of where players' cars are actually located?
Theme appropriate and could be quite fun seeing those muscles all on ice. |

Finally did the math... if the event happens at 24:00, there's about a 50/50 chance I can make it. If it's any of the other times, there's zero chance.

Sam intentionally made it so you can have high DD drivers for a reason, because it spices things up a bit. and DD is not so useful at close range and low speed, i know i just lost a DD7 last week on a scout. and as soon as a stupid enough player popped a psi in the event, it would be very unlikely that super rare ganger would get out unhurt or dead, but it would be nice if they had the option to try |

You could say the same about highly skilled gunners, heavy lasers, mortars, whatever you want. Doesn't change the fact that using #### like that is only fun for the people who have them. This is an event that is supposed to be FUN because it's CHRISTMAS.
It's not like you can't just enter a sub 80 driver/psionic and do the same ####. |

Watching some pyros at work.
The reindeer skin wasn't bad, but couldn't compete with my Evil Elf. Four HR's thumped into it at close range, ended up redding a ganger (my bad). 
I also scored an HR shot on Roo's van along with a couple of gat hits. If you missed the replay, go watch it a few times, concentrating on different areas of the battle. The event was a lot of fun, thanks everyone for showing up and sorry for those who couldn't make it. |

I talked to Sam was after the Zombie Assault and he said he was going to try and put together another event for Xmas. It may or may not be the same event as last year. A large field Death Race was an option he mentioned. But if the players prefer the Santa/Roo event, perhaps a vote and show of support as to who would be attending, may convince Sam what event to create. | ||||

I would much rather have Santa/Roo too. If that is the event of choice, I would suggest a server date of December 28th or 29th. Maybe a time slot between 0400 - 0800 for the 28th or 1800 - 2200 for the 29th. There are no COE events that weekend so it should get better participation if played during one of these time slots. | ||||

Rev, we really don't need Sam to help with this event, so we could give him the holidays off instead. All we have to do is create a squad challenge with Roo's and Santa's team set with players and agree to the format on which this combat will be based.
If Sam can't attend, we need to nominate someone to be Captain for Santa's team. Rev volunteered to be Roo Captain, so we are halfway there. Here are the rules from last years Slay Ride Combat.
If anyone want to suggest any changes to ganger skill or chassis limits, speak now so we have time to make adjustments. Otherwise, we use the existing format. If this sounds good to everyone, then let's get this thing started! EDIT: I will get in contact with Sam and let him know about the event. I also would like to hold Sam as the Santa team leader unless he is not able to attend. Then we get to find his replacement. |

Hey Sam, how does Saturday December 28th work for you? Perhaps a 2000-2400 server time slot for the Slay Ride? Also, these events need to take place in Morgan as it was last year because playing in the snow is a blast. A Deathrace could be done as well. Maybe an all muscle or same chassis type for the vehicles? I could help set up the Deathrace and start compiling a prize fund. Yes, that's how Sam magically whisked us away to the lovely snowy terrain in Morgan. Unfortunately, my vehicle was stolen by the Morgan pirates before the return trip back to SS was sent out. But we won't have that problem this year... I guarantee that! | ||||

How about Tues 24th (any time).
I'd really like to get in on this event this year especially since all of the Zombie events happened while I was at work this year. Though that was probably to my benefit! Lol. |

Yeah, probably. Mine wont be headed home till the Sunday after Christmas. I guess I will just skip it again this year. Unless it is Christmas Eve or Christmas day I wont be off work. Technically I wouldn't be off Christmas Eve if it weren't for the fact it falls on a Tuesday.
I need to live in Europe I think. So my times match up with everyone else. Or something. Gets a little old missing every single faster pussycat, every zombie event, 50% of the SCL matches, Every Santa Claws event, All of the minor Leagues like Autumn extravaganza, Winter Meltdown... etc... Thank god for CoE being so late at night though! |

Yeah, most evenings after about the 26th will probably be ok for me.
I can arrange a teleport of everyone to Morgan for the squad combat, and a teleport of the Morgan racetrack to Somerset for the deathrace! .. this is the magic of Christmas .. ;-) |

I figured that would be the case Sam. For the squad Combat, I suggest Saturday December 28th with a start time between 20:00 - 24:00 server time. This is probably the best overall time and date to accommodate Sam's attendance as well as most of the player base who wants to join in the fun.
The Deathrace could be run anytime after the combat or the following day. Keeping it as a weekend combo event, perhaps a Sunday 05:00 - 08:00 or 16:00- 19:00 server time slot? I also made some new badges for the combat if Sam wants to use these for this years event. First one could be a participation and/or special awards badge. 
This would be a badge for the team that defeats Santa. 
And this badge for the team that defeats Roo. 
I will get these saved under the appropriate size and file type and send them to you Sam. I am currently working on a badge for the Deathrace and will post it here when completed. I hope everyone gets a chance to participate in at least one of these events. They are only once a year a loads of fun. And how often do you ever get a chance to shoot at Sam.
