I'm just turning my thoughts to road/wilderness battles. The first type will be ones that are on the outskirts of Somerset, and can therefore be done before world travel is implemented. You will be able to put your gang into "looking for trouble" mode, and will have encounters with NPC pirates or trader gangs. You will also be matched up against human gangs who are also in the vicinity and are looking for trouble.
Something that's very important of course is getting the difficulty level right. For absolute realism, the strength of an NPC gang that you meet would be totally based on where you met them (on the outskirts of Somerset would tend to be pretty safe) and would have nothing to do with your own gang strength. However, that would make it very easy pickings for strong player-run gangs, and would make it impossible for weaker ones. I guess it could be feasible for a smaller/weaker gang to be able to "hide" and therefore not get into a battle with a much stronger gang. That's one semi-plausible way of getting the challenge factor right..? |

sam like always you ideas are great, yet maybe depending on strength itll depend on the "type" of NPC even if in a supposed 'safe area' |

Comp: yes, that's what I'm leaning towards, I was looking for a good justification for it I suppose. I guess the enemy gang strength can be affected by both the world location and your gang strength. That way a combat is never totally unbalanced, although sending a weak gang into bandit territory is still very foolhardy... |

or maybe random encounters with something hinting at the strength of the enemy i.e. weak medium strong and give the player the option of engaging or avoiding the encounter....when trade missions are available avoiding the engagement might not be an option then...also leads into optional equipment for the cars to have that might give better info on enemy strengths like radar..or something like that ^^ |
