Darkwind
Crashes during event loading

A recent crash-log from an OSX player has shown that decals can sometimes cause problems in OSX.

I am therefore adding this option to the event loading screen:
"do not display decals"

You shouldn't need to use it often, but if you're getting repeated crashes while loading into an event, it just might help.

Wonderful can finally play with Osprey users with decals

Is it decals on ospreys that caused it, you think? or just ospreys in general?

It's only the combination of an Osprey and decal, I have loaded ospreys into events many times without problems.

There is another problem, don't know if it's mac only, but since having the scenes of Evans, I crash a lot loading the client (after it crashed), a work around is to launch the .jar file.

It might be related to clicking to remove the picture, and on the pop up I have tried both options, the "yes" seems to work a little better.

I'll post a OsX log next times just in case

Guess what I just found? When I first set up the Osprey, I forgot to add data for its decal positioning, and some default values I had left in were making the client try to write pixels way beyond the 512x512 size available.

This is now fixed. I'm surprised it was only OSX that disliked this!

Cars with decals in Doomeds scout were a chaser with the L plates, and Synysters Windsor II with his own decal on it.

My java wasn't fully updated which could be a have been the problem, but i just updated my java and no further updates of darkwind were required. I'll let you know what happens next time i try and load decals

Java is only used for the patcher program, not the main game client.

If you can't load decals, it may be because your Mac is refusing to let the game save the files, perhaps. Are you running it from inside a folder where you have read+write access?

yep it in a file where it can read + write. it might help if you knew that the client keeps cutting out to although i i ever get into an event its fine, i had to download the mappack becuase the maps has the same problem

I got no idea how macs work, but that really sounds like the game doesn't have permission to save files to me.

i checked it its got read & write permission ay least on my computer.

Could it possibly be to do with the network?

I personally don't know the exact setting of the netork, the a room mate of mine is the administrator.

If you can't dynamically patch maps either, then it's surely a problem with saving downloaded files. I haven't heard of this happening with OSX before (it's a known problem with Windows since Vista). What version of OSX are you using? - perhaps if it's Lion (which I haven't tested) they have changed how permissions work

I don't think it would be network related, since other data is clearly getting thru just fine

Actually thinking about it now i may have set, my permissions with regard to the darkwind file rather then the files permissions.

Get into> sharing and permissions > read & write.

Although i have the folder in applications which i would of through grants it read and write access anyway.

You've mentioned 'file' permissions a couple of times, are you talking about the Darkwind app bundle (DarkwindOSXClient.app on my machine), or the folder the app bundle is in (darkwindFullOSX on my machine)?

I meant the folder (and its subfolders); thanks for clarifying marrkos..

How exactly do i ensure that darkwind had read & write access

I'm pretty sure that if you didn't do anything out of the ordinary, the Darkwind app is inside a Darkwind folder.

It sounds like you put that folder in your Applications folder.

The folder that has the Darkwind app in it should have Read & Write permissions set for at least the Owner (the first item in the permissions list, and it's probably you). Additionally, all files and folders in that folder should have Read & Write permissions set.

You should have an option to 'Apply to enclosed items...' which is supposed to walk the folder structure setting the permissions, but I've found it to be unreliable, so you'll need to verify it actually did what it is supposed to.

right-click  or Control+click the darkwindFullOSX folder (in your applications folder)

select get info

click on the little lock icon in the lower right and ask your roommate to type in his administrator PW

set it to read & write

then click the little gear icon and apply to enclosed items, then close the window
