This patch fixes the bug that was stopping the 'give ammo to nearby character' function from working

It also updates the Spanish translation file -- thanks for your help with this Ricardo!

Note that I have also made some changes to the zombie town attack events to hopefully make them more challenging: the zombies will arrive in several 'waves' rather than all at once.

You should make it so the characters killed by the zombies get back up under NPC control.

That would be so freakin' awesome.  :D

There's a "give ammo to nearby character" function?  Is this new?  That's extremely useful.

Is this supposed to work for giving ammo to gangs other than your own? Because it doesn't.

What's happens when you tried it?

Well when I was giving ammo to my own gang members, all I had to do was go to the ped's inventory > Right click ammo > Give 4x rifle ammo to [insert name here]

When I tried to give ammo to Firefly I would go to the inventory, but nothing would happen when I right clicked the ammo.

I know this seems like a dumb question, but are you sure you were close enough? The code is very straightforward and it definitely shouldn't distinguish between peds belonging to you and those belonging to other players

edit: hmm.. it's possible patching didn't catch the code change. We can blame Vista's "user friendly" file ordering system that continually insists that you really need to sort by some ridiculous field such as 'rating'. I putting a new patch through now..

Vista?

Oh geez.

I'm so sorry Sam....

I hate it when one American makes all Americans look bad.
If it's any consolation, Mr. Gates pissed a lot of us off with that trainwreck too.

Windows 7 is good no? except for that stupid wifi issue with public your profile that you can't change for some reason, and so can't connect to your own wifi network..

Sorry back to your regularly scheduled program

Windows 7 is pretty damn good, as far as Windows OS's go.

Haven't tried 7, from what I hear it's pretty good.
Vista?
Wow.
I find it hilarious (and extremely telling) that MS extended XP support due to consumer...displeasure...... :D

I still use XP and will until I get 7.

It was quite a bit more than that.  Netbooks could not run Vista because of hardware constraints.  XP needed to be supported until MS could produce a "microkernel" that could function in less than a gig of ram.

Most customer dissatisfaction issues with Vista was the tighter security model.  Since XP lets pretty much any code that wants to run on your machine do so whether you give it permission to or not, most apps (including darkwind) took advantage of that to do things that technically were "against the rules".  Viruses took advantage of this *a lot*.  Vista started enforcing the rules, which broke a ton of apps, and pissed people off.  7 enforces those same rules, but since most apps are fixed now under pressure from Vista users, it doesn't piss people off anymore.

But personally, I think ArchLinux is the best OS I have ever used ;)

I would love to be able to run Linux. Sadly, I like to play games...

I know a bunch of music recording/editing software did NOT like Vista, and it made my life a living hell.

Does this mean Mantis 8 is resolved?

I can verify it is. In my zombie combat, after using 3 rifle reloads and all the ammo from his grenade belt, Shawn Wilson was able to receive a rifle from Brian Wagner's corpse. He then gave Brian his spent rifle, and received a grenade belt from Brian's corpse. He then gave the corpse his spent grenade belt and was able to retrieve Brian's Hammer.

Does this only function between gang members? Or can you loot any body?
Marrkos

Posted Nov 2, 2010, 6:53 am
I believe it is only between gang members. Possibly members of the same team, but no looting of NPC peds (I don't think).

That was the case during my zombie event.

It's all done via a "give" rather than "take" mechanism. So the owner of the corpse has to "give" the items to a nearby ped. I could implement "take" as well, it would take a bit of work is all..
Fifth

Being able to "Take" from corpses would be nice too, but only from corpses.
Maybe wilderness critters can spawn some Medicine and Food bulk items? I know it'll be nice to loot pirate corpses for weapons and such.
*Tinker*

Posted Nov 2, 2010, 5:25 pm
That would be great Sam, ALso think it would be better to loot from any ped that is unconscious
*Dark Tempest*

Posted Nov 2, 2010, 5:49 pm
Could it be implemented that peds could 'take' things from cars that they could then carry and use, like ped ammo, or give to other cars, like ammo from an ammo carrier to a gun boat?
Zephyr

Posted Nov 2, 2010, 6:27 pm
This sounds like it would be very useful functionality once those "Into the Ruins" ped scout missions are available. :cyclops:

How does this work with bulk? Can you give an item to a ped who is already at max capacity?

Hmm could they carry more then 6 bulk? if so would they slow down from the weight? or just limited to 6 bulk total?

in theory a ped could even carry 1 tank gun round at a time (4 bulk)

you just take the ammo in ones where the bulk is too big... would need to implement part ammo in cargo though

Simplest case is that a ped with nothing in their inventory can carry 1 unit of any ammo, or that they can only carry up to six bulk.

With me being a bit out of touch with this brave new world lately, is there a fascinating/entertaining backstory behind the arrival of the driving dead? :)

Well, they have come and gone, Ayjona.. a Halloween special feature. There's a short narrative about it in the Dexter's forum though.

Ah, now I remember. They've been here before, on previous Halloweens, right?

Nice narrative! And, judging from that thread, the idea of zombies shambling across the wastes really inspires this community to new creative heights ;)
