*sam* Posted Jul 25, 2007, 2:38 pm |
You may not be aware of this, but as a work-around on the Mac I have the game display the context-menu of an object when you just hover over it (rather than right-click it which is what you have to do on Windows). I'm assuming a 1-button mouse of course.
Personally I find this annoying when playing (I never had any complaints about it, so maybe it's just me)? Is it really necessary, or would it be better with this work-around removed? (I know you can 'right click' using a keyboard key+mouse button?) |
||||
*viKKing* Posted Jul 25, 2007, 4:09 pm |
Right click is 'control' + click on Os X
*sam* Posted Jul 25, 2007, 4:40 pm |
Right, that's it. Would you prefer having to do that to having the context menus auto-appear when you hover over an object, which is how it is now?
*viKKing* Posted Jul 25, 2007, 4:56 pm |
I'm using a 2 buttons Logitech mouse...
Maybe matching to Apple's requirements may be a good idea. |
||||
*sam* Posted Jul 25, 2007, 5:46 pm |
Er....
.. so is that an answer of "yes" or an answer of "no" to the question "do you want the auto-appearance of context menus removed"? |
||||
*viKKing* Posted Jul 25, 2007, 7:58 pm |
Hahah, I can decide for the whole Mac community... I'm not the only one even if I'm the most present... I would like point of view of some of our players... So, it's: wait and see. |
||||
*DoubleTap* Posted Jul 25, 2007, 8:09 pm |
Sam, it doesn't bother me at all, because I've never seen it any other way. Option click might work better, but I don't have any problem with the scrollover.

*JD_Basher* jd.basher@charter.net Posted Jul 25, 2007, 8:34 pm |
Sometimes I have a problem with the auto-menu interfering with clicking on prompts like the "Looting is about to commence". In fact it was a main cause in my having to leave a game loot because it would not let me click the prompt "ok" button.
When you have hovered over a car and seen the info given, then move the mouse elsewhere, the same info shows up again when you hover over a prompt or try to 'manage' your car again interfering in races and slowing my response time. So "YES" I think it should be removed and replaced with the right "control" click |
||||
*Speedealer* Posted Jul 25, 2007, 11:19 pm |
what JD said. it sometimes gets in the way of another pop-up but it's easy to reposition the screen to get rid of that problem. But I could go either way. Maybe try the right click and we can experience the difference and then decide? Also, if you do go with the hidden menus, please make it accessable by either the control click or a 2+ button mouse. I use a logitec too.
Seiler Posted Jul 25, 2007, 11:52 pm |
I'm accustomed to using a multi-button mouse as well, and right clicking to bring up the menu would be handier, often the menu pop-ups interfere with game handling, especially when I'm simply trying to get car info by click on a vehicle with other cars close by. Maybe something in the options menu- a single button mouse mode?
I'm currently using the Apple Wireless Supermouse, so bleh to all you logitech users |
||||
*viKKing* Posted Jul 26, 2007, 12:02 am |
Shouldn't it be named "mightymouse", a very nice but fragile mouse? I really love the design of Apple's mice, but this one is really too fragile. |
||||
*Speedealer* Posted Jul 26, 2007, 12:10 am |
Time to upgrade, Sei. The scroll wheel kicks ass (among other things. )
Seiler Posted Jul 26, 2007, 12:55 am |
Lol, I got mine for 35 bucks in the purchase bundle. If I'm spending 100 bucks nowadays, it'll be something for one of my rifles
willo da car man Posted Jul 30, 2007, 9:17 am |
its so dam cheap to get a right and left click mouse thats what i did they come in usefull in other games as well
|

*DoubleTap* Posted Jul 31, 2007, 6:21 am |
Has this been implemented? I could not assign a gunner to a weapon last night, no matter what I did.
*viKKing* Posted Jul 31, 2007, 7:31 am |
Yes it is DoubleTap.
Right click is Control + click if you don't have a 2-buttons mouse. |
||||
*sam* Posted Jul 31, 2007, 7:49 am |
I might need to un-implement it however, since control+click wouldn't work for jd.
In fact what I will do is make it into an option. |
||||
*viKKing* Posted Jul 31, 2007, 7:50 am |
Options are cool. |
||||
*JD_Basher* jd.basher@charter.net Posted Jul 31, 2007, 9:31 am |
No need to unimplement it for me......You gave me the zip patch to make it like it was before, I can work with it... Kinda got used to it. Although an options would be nice for when I 'finally' get off my butt and get a mouse with more than one button. (Dont know if my little mind can take it though!... hehehe) edit: I kept the zip file in case I need it again. |
||||
*sam* Posted Jul 31, 2007, 9:57 am |
That's not a good idea in fact, since any future changes to other stuff in that file (it handles all the interpretation of mouse clicks) will be lost if you replace a patched version with it. I'll definitely put in an option; it's the best solution. |
||||
*DoubleTap* Posted Jul 31, 2007, 6:00 pm |
Didn't work for me. Very frustrating to be unable to use a weapon in a deathrace with live humans. |
||||
*viKKing* Posted Jul 31, 2007, 6:38 pm |
oh! I was just pointing the Apple standard method, I'm using a 2 buttons mouse on the Mac. |
||||
*sam* Posted Jul 31, 2007, 7:32 pm |
Sorry about that DT. Today's patch gives you a new Preferences setting, which allows you to turn on/off the 'auto context menu' feature (which was previously always 'on', for Mac users)
*DoubleTap* Posted Jul 31, 2007, 7:48 pm |
No worries, Sam. Was I doing something wrong last night that I couldn't get it to work?
*sam* Posted Jul 31, 2007, 8:03 pm |
I don't know if some other key rather than Control would have done it; I rarely use Macs myself. JD had the same problem as you though. |
||||
*DoubleTap* Posted Jul 31, 2007, 10:43 pm |
JD, how'd you fix it? I'd hate to play out the rest of my subscription unable to fire a shot...
*JD_Basher* jd.basher@charter.net Posted Jul 31, 2007, 11:20 pm |
I just sent you a PM DoubleTap telling how to fix it.
*sam* Posted Aug 1, 2007, 12:08 am |
DT - there's a Preference setting available now. From the top menu in-game, choose Preferences. Then check the "Auto-show Context Menus" setting.
*JD_Basher* jd.basher@charter.net Posted Aug 1, 2007, 12:38 am |
Yep....thats what I sent him too.
Marrkos Posted Oct 28, 2007, 4:22 pm |
So, is the solution to this problem to enable the preference to show the menu on hover? That would make me
I ask because I was playing without my two-button mouse attached (using just the trackpad), and cntrl-click would not register as a right-click (and neither would any other key combination). [possible thread hijack] Also, possible related: I've found that some of the key commands don't work in the Mac client. The two that I remember right now are the comma, and the period to move through the cars. In the latest races/DRs I've been in I've attempted to cycle through the vehicles with those keys and had no success. |
||||
*JD_Basher* jd.basher@charter.net Posted Oct 28, 2007, 9:26 pm |
The cycle keys only work when you have more than two cars under your personal control. If you have 2 cars entered in an arena, you can cycle between them with the keys. It works the same in the wilderness if you personally have more than 2 cars in the scout. |
||||
*viKKing* Posted Oct 28, 2007, 9:31 pm |
unless you are not using a Qwerty keyboard... like me, keys are different, but in the same position. Mines are ',' and ';'. Azerty keyboard.
Marrkos Posted Oct 28, 2007, 11:17 pm |
Ah. That might need to be clarified in the documentation; I was under the impression it would cycle through *all* the cars, not just those under my control. Or perhaps I misread the instructions. |
||||
Dustyjjc Posted Nov 3, 2007, 6:13 am |
Uh... I can't even click anything. There is no right click for me, only left. I cant double click, shift click, control click, or apple click for it to work! Whats going on!?
*viKKing* Posted Nov 3, 2007, 7:34 am |
@Dustyjjc: unless you have a real 2-button mouse, there is no emulated right-click.
On our side (the Mac side), there is no need for a right click, the menus are auto-popping up when needed. Enable the preference to show the menu on hover. This preference is found in-game, preference menu (top left of the screen). Most of the problem could be solved by using a 2-button mouse. |
||||
*viKKing* Posted Nov 3, 2007, 7:45 am |
Here is a screenshot of the preference menu (not available until you join a game).
If you have a single-button mouse, we recommend to enable "auto show context menus". |

*DoubleTap* Posted Dec 6, 2007, 12:20 am |
What about siphoning gas and reloading weapons at the loot screen, Vik?
*JD_Basher* jd.basher@charter.net Posted Dec 6, 2007, 12:49 am |
@Vikk So........If no emulated 'right click' I guess we cannot refuel or reload from the looting screen with a one button mouse? Right? I also cannot place flags in scouting events....this is related? |
||||
*viKKing* Posted Dec 6, 2007, 7:40 am |
Yes JD, I presume problem is related.
I'll give it a look this evening with a single button mouse. |
||||
*DoubleTap* Posted Dec 8, 2007, 7:42 pm |
Any new news on a right click option on the Mac for reloading/siphoning at the loot screen and for flags, Vik?
*sam* Posted Dec 8, 2007, 7:53 pm |
I'll look into it later. I'm sure Torque does give a key combination to simulate the RMB, but I don't have the code in front of me right now.
*DoubleTap* Posted Dec 8, 2007, 10:19 pm |
No worries, Sam, thanks. That would be terrific. I wonder why option click doesn't work...
*sam* Posted Dec 8, 2007, 10:27 pm |
I've actually just coded up shift-click DT.
Give me 5 mins to re-compile the Mac engine and you can try it. |
||||
*DoubleTap* Posted Dec 8, 2007, 10:29 pm |
Sam, you're the goods. Many thanks.
*sam* Posted Dec 8, 2007, 10:48 pm |
OK, I didn't give this a new engine build number as it's Mac only and non-critical.
So to grab it now, you need to: 1. open your darkwind folder and the folder called "darkwind" inside that 2. edit client_params.txt and change engineVersion: 76 to engineVersion: 75 Then run the lobby/patching program. All going to plan, you will find that shift-click has the same effect as right-click in all circumstances |
||||
*JD_Basher* jd.basher@charter.net Posted Dec 8, 2007, 10:54 pm |
scriptUpdateVersion: 163
mediaVersion: 60 engineVersion: 76 This is what is in the file you noted Sam.... my engine version is a bit larger than what you show.....should I change it to what you suggest? |
||||
*sam* Posted Dec 8, 2007, 11:01 pm |
Sorry, my mistake. Ye, change it to anything less than 76 in fact.
*DoubleTap* Posted Dec 9, 2007, 8:40 pm |
Changed it, and was able to place a flag yesterday. A giant step for Mac players. Havent' used it on the loot screen yet.
Thanks, Sam! |
||||
*sam* Posted Dec 9, 2007, 10:31 pm |
No problem. It turns out stock Torque hadn't implemented this feature at all, as far as I could see. |
