Darkwind
Scripts v.285, Patcher/Lobby v.32

This patch adds an option to strip weapons and tyres from a vehicle in the Publically Lootable box. The engine remains in the vehicle and it remains drivable (but weaponless/tyreless). The tyres and weapons appear in the loot box (the latter only if successfully removed without being destroyed)

This patch also fixes a bug with the patcher program which was incorrectly identifying 64bit Intel Macs as having PPC processors.

I'm also considering an option to choose how 'rushed' you want to be at looting time. The more rushed you are, the less likely that you'll get ambushed by creatures and/or bandits during looting, but also the less likely your salvager and jury rigger rolls are to successful..

::whimpers and bitches:: i want to pull engines too.. maby we can make a flatbed pickup or lorry as a wrecker with a boom hoist

seriously tho love the idea sam. makes a van or lorry on the field more important now that we might be bringin home a lot more bulk from wrecks. can definately see this being popular down south where a 4% engine will get you killed easy

this should probly go in a different topic but maby we can get some kind of tool kits, coupple different sizes depending on vehicle type but give a bonus on mechanic skills if theres one in the squad. turn a lorry into a rolling shop

Yeah - just being discussed in lobby now

using a scout to train a low mech could backfire when you want to extract that CC

The pleasure of bring home a busted clunker for the HGG is lost now

The possibility of interception should be considered ( a replacement for the old (lost) system of secondadry NPC car spawn during battle)

The idea of peds running to  cars  or jumping into smoking chassis with working cannons is VERY exciting for me

Key factors

The mech has his head in car - scout skills not used
Generall gang activity for that area
peds geting away on foot
Smoke brings critters

Well, trying to strip it in the field is quite likely to damage or destroy it, depending on mech skill, so driving it home is still the best option for making sure you get the weapon loot.

Updated the JAR file, but it wouldn't launch the client like a used to, but could successfully launch it manually

mac 10.5.8, intel (64bit?)

Is it the PPC client that you have, Tinker?
The new patcher will be trying to launch the Intel client, which perhaps you don't have because the previous patcher got you the PPC version

If this is the case, then change darkwind/client_params.txt and set engineVersion: 0

Then run the new patcher again and it should download the Intel client.

I have just finished uploading the darkwindFullOSX.zip archive with the correct patcher in it

Would it be possible to have the option of leaving the tires on the vehicle when you strip weapons? This would be useful if a player doesn't have drivers for a loot car but wants a particular weapon while keeping the loot vehicle drivable (without insane risk) for other looters in the squad.

you dont get the loot tho grove, it dumps it into the loot box so you get last pick on the guns

I have no idea, it's the same i've had for a few months, I keep a local fresh copy on my computer to avoid redownloading

But looking at the info of the DarkwindOSXClient.app I see it's kind is Application (intel)

That's the Intel client, yep. Darn Java never works as easily as intended..

got it thanks, is there any difference then what i have now and what could work on an intel? on Leopard?

If the v31 patcher works for you, and is launching you into the Intel build, then you're fine.

any way to get the space back from removing the weapons? and perhaps a way to put good tires on it too? ;)

I'll probably separate the 'remove weapons' from 'remove tyres' option

RE recovering space - it was intentional that you don't get it back. Weapons are basically ripped out of their mountings in the vehicles, which does very little to reclaim usable space until the car can be properly worked on in a garage.

I don't know if this is related but i experiment quite some Timeouts accessing to the site. (repairing, marketplace, and so on)

I didn't notice the same problem on Scout hopefully.

It's not unbearable, but i encounter a freeze about 3 requests or so, and a connection error/timeout about every 10 requests or so.

I'm not the only one, Tinker told me on the lobby he also had slow access today to the site.

Edit : just got a freeze during downloading data on a scout Map.
Of course internet acces on all other sites i use is working well

does stripping a car count as your turn? do you get to then take something?

my suggestion that if you chose to strip a car it should be your turn but chassis, tyres and weapons appear in your temp items not teh loot box makes MUCH more sense...

you have looted a vehicle and choose to strip it.

EDIT.... thats ridiculous.. i see it does... why cant I TAKE a car and then strip it? whats the difference (also allows you to use your mech skill not the best in the scout which seems reasonable)... stripping a car so the next player can take the good bits is ludicrous...

AND WORST OF ALL..

it will lead to the situation where people try to stay in the loot screen till everyone else has gone so they can strip and loot the cars with duff engines but good weapons.. it may make for interminable looting.

WELL DONE RULES COUNCIL... once again we see what electing morons does for thoughtful discussion on issues...

Before you go insulting the RC goat (oops, I see you already did) - they didn't define the precise fine details of how this was operating, I did. In fact the concept of it not using up your turn was indeed mentioned. Wouldn't be hard to fix.

I agree with the point that once you loot a vehicle, it should be yours to do what you want with it, so weapons should show up in your temporary area. I mean, the same thing happens if your car becomes lootable, why not cars you're working on?

I think that the chance to break the weapon when removing it is enough of a downside. Having other players be able to swipe them from you after *you* did the work of removing them doesn't seem right.

and i believe i didnt insult them... i was quite generous thanks

Since this latest patch, the Java lobby updates every time I log in. Is this intended? (PC version, for what that's worth.)

If you're using the .exe rather than .jar version of the lobby then yes, that will happen until you do a full download again. But it's not doing any harm.

Hello Sam,

Nice work. if you're working on the looting system, can I make a plea for a "loot all" button on a solo scout. It would shift everything to your temp area. I think it should only work if the scout was solo from the beginning (not just if everyone has left) due to the potential for people who drop connections or leave by mistake missing out.

And goat: I'm sure you weren't this incendiary when I left.

Glad you mentioned this.  I didn't know there were two versions.  I figured out how to get my horn working!

If I use the shortcut: "C:\Program Files\Darkwind\darkwindLobby.exe" then my horn doesn't work.

If I launch darkwindlobby.jar then it works.
