Good Ambush Spawns

This thread is for players to post the IDs of events where there were good ambush spawns.

By 'good', I mean challenging but not impossible. Where the AI have a good initial setup.

The idea is that we can start to re-use these ambushes, and this will lead to better over-all setups rather than relying on them randomly being good.

Any event IDs you post here will be checked by Marshals (via playbacks) before being added.

happened to me once.

Also heard that lordbam and FF had it happen to them.

I had one of these today...  The combat vehs were on the fringes, and my setup was on top of a Pho Trader....  Didn't work so well for them.

Well, that makes sense... in a way... when you go after traders, I kinda imagined that I am hunting them, and thereby, I know were they are in advance, why do I bother to put my 100+ scouts in ospreys otherwise...?

challenging enough to almost breach my TT on 3 sides.

couldn't push forwards or I woulda get overrun, so had to turn around... TT being a TT doesn't turn around so quickly, so almost got overrun anyway.

managed to survive at the end though :)

Easy. They just wait until you're out of sight, and then set up the ambush as you're coming over the hill or around the corner.


Also, I had the funnest ambush ever yesterday. I was expecting the enemy to spawn in front of me, so I spawned farthest to the circle possible with my cars, and the lorry I bagged from the scout. Turned out it was an ambush and there were 5 cars in front of me, one directly to the side and one behind. I had no choice but to charge into and past the group, using the buzzers as shields. It was great fun. :)

on the pits... pale and i are faced by a group behind and a group in front... both about equal size... 2 bpus and a blackstone behind along with a bunch of rocket cars and an apache. in front a bpu, black rock, texan strongarm and assorted rocket cars.

its the first scout i have ever done where the only option i could se was to stop dead and start shooting.

we won.. just... but im not sure how thjis would have gone if i hadn't had 2 firetrucks that could fight equally well front and back.

Not a very pleasant spot as it gives nero zero options.

Sam, I would suggest moving the placement up a bit into the open area for the players cars as this spot gives no room to turn around. Considering we are technically not supposed to use the circle in a strategic way, this placement forces the player to do so. If I had been using lorries, tankers or any other large chassis it would have turned out farse worse.

It's bad enough enemies that I can easily hit at 200m away are popping out of thin air 85m behind me with a 360+ scout before I even move a car. If those 3 behind me had been coming around the hill they were in front of to show they were coming out of hiding, they would have still been within rocket range on turn 2 and it would have looked realistic.

PS: As usual I had a few minor earthquakes to give my scout that bouncy feel.

OK.. a good example of one *not* to record for future use then. The idea is, when we have a decent set of 'good' ones recorded, then they can start to be used rather than randomising. This will remove the chance of 'bad' ones like yours..

I disagree with zero options there -- with the pirates weaker toward the rear, turning and rushing past them is easily doable.

Personally I think the canyon maps need a bit of a reworking to add more paths though (think the maze).

the way I set up in the circle is always the lorrys in the middle... but now it seems I need to make a tighter circle around the lorrys...

but this ambush wasnt too crazy, i could have run for the sides....

Scarzams Dragoons and I got jumped at the gates of SS. This wasn’t very realistic as the enemies literally started right next to us. We did end up winning, with Scarzams losing one guy, but an ambush shouldn’t be this close imo.

nearly got me with this one Sam... ;)

Pits... bunch in front including 2 BPUs, lancer, some other stuff. Big buch behind.. No choice but to go through and took a very unlucky top hit that knocked out my scout car... cue desperate attempts to save best scout, breaches to 2 Firetrucks... general mayhem and gnashing of teeth...

.... but you are going to have to try harder

I think your biggest issue was the physics glitch on the buzzer. Without that you would probably have made it behind the tanks, and it's relatively OK from there.

I actually would have pulled out of that , but my side of 30 points got bombarded by a ton of hits.... ambushed from 3 sides and all of them facing like that....and the 4th side a mountain...just had no place to go.

that one doesnt look to bad to me. Tough but not impossible.. i think you turn too far at the start.. lose too much speed where a run through the gap between the bandid and the main group would have put you clear. Its not a fast group of cars.

also have no idea why wolf is calling what happens to your buzzer a 'physics glich' it all loooks pretty realistic.

Well 19 specs on the guy that got blue text, and he isnt maxed yet. I figured it was worth a buzzer and apache. Had to turn far at start or I would have clipped my other car.

i thought you stopped at the right time.... what i am saying is that i would have driven pretty much straight at the start... used my closing speed to get past the group ahead through teh gap between them and the bandit behind you and then steamed on... i just think if you start an ambush in the open with everything else moving at 35mph the worst thing you can do is turn sharply at the begining and drop your own speed to almost 0.

its not an easy ambush at all but i dont think its impossible.


it would be nice if we could reset games like that one to the beginning and replay them.

Talk about a challenging ambush...Textbook setup for the AI, 3 to 1 advantage, (well, 2.5 to 1), made escaping especially nail-biting. We only had 1 path out of the kill zone and went for it. Took out the biggest threat early in the fight (Strongarm), moved out as quickly as possible and got to high ground where we could mass our firepower, it was a running fight after that.

Very challenging...20 Vehicles taken out, 15 Lullaby members KIA.

Great ambush with Max on Scattered Grounds surrounded and pinned between cover and a chasm with most close by and blocking the escape route, was a very tense first 12 turns, especially after getting painted repeatedly from turn 1.

Pretty sure if i didn't have a Telekinesis psi my best crew would be dead.

Scary ambush in Acid Land - came at me front and back, very tense - had a carload of taxi passengers too. Free courage training!

Here's another - scout was 165, routine travel EL->GW. Head on spawn at close range. Don't think there was any way to escape.

These ambushes are getting kinda silly. This was a 160+ scout. Medic in the Hall of Fame got hit first (of course) - no one else was seriously injured. Somehow won this one, but these kinds of 'victories' are not sustainable. Watch this if you think PvE is too easy.

BTW - the MG spec really saved my life - my HGG was down to 30% and kept firing.

Wow! just had some crazy fun. Enemy positioning was maybe not the best, but great fun. Got a 2nd wave and two ram kills before my offensive driver 2 bit the dust during a headless charge.

Great fun and really heartpounding. Try to count the number of rockets that hit my two cars...

Another of my insane returns. This includes a 2nd wave right on top of a horrible setup (i still setup as far away as i could..) and was facing straight for a Gunboat with two marauders.

I started with low rear armor, so a straight charge was my only option. Ended with 5 armor front.

Exploding gunboats can really save the day...
worth watching and pretty short.

This is why high courage matters - think my taxi passengers probably got courage too heh.

Not sure this was unwinnable, but crashing into the pu didn't really help. Otherwise, I probably could have gotten by them and gotten free.

My taxi clients were unimpressed. They didn't pay when we got to SF despite having to save them from bears and rats. :( Ingrates.

I had this exact ambush spawn a couple weeks ago. You got the unfavorable starting position by facing the opposite direction that I got. For me, it was floor it down hill and run it out. I did take some rear and side hits but made it without any casualties.

You did make a valiant attempt to drive by them. Nice swerving technique. To bad it was thwarted by a pick up that spun out. Even though the encounter failed, I would still give you a "10" for the try.

I would have attempted a U-turn and use the acceleration and speed of the eaton to try to escape, but thats just my thinking. This is the fun thing about DW. Different players have different strategies and ideas that others can learn from.

The hard part was that the AI's two most powerful cars, both Scorpions, were behind us and we had to break through and kill them while the main force was closing and firing at our rear. A dangerous concentration of rockets.

I considered turning, but I estimated that the back guys would be too close.  With speed loss for turning and no cover for several turns, I figured that wouldn't work.  That pickup hosed me good.  But no damages other than loss of a car, so can't cry.

S793793 Avalanche Vs Sabre Dogs Highway To Hell

Mary Mobley of the Sabre Dogs makes the unlikely choice of trying to use her Eliminator to ram a lorry equipped with a reinforced ram. A rocket boosted, Chromed 7Lv12 equipped lorry.

Issac Hays does a terrible job of trying to shoot Mary using Wrought Iron's front rocket launcher(he barely knows how to load the thing) but it serves to distract her as the lorry barrels down on her. Colliding at a combined speed of 122MPH does bad things to the Eliminator. Six seconds into the encounter I have one less opponent capable of carrying the fight to me. And the rest is just car cannons.
