Today's update includes the functions related to the new NPC courier missions, which are now available from the taverns.

It also includes some new sweeeet vehicle skins from desolatordan (thanks mate!) - this time for the Marley and the Vampire.

Here's an explanation of the courier missions (and also bounties, which I'm just implementing now):

You will pick up these missions from the tavern. Each mission will involve bringing a specific package (private documents, drugs, or mail) to another town (I can add other package types, and am open to suggestions on these). Each mission will require a minimum fame and reputation rating for you to be accepted for it. (Mail missions for example need good reputations, while drug runs generally don't).

You will have 48 hours to deliver the package. If you fail (or decide not to) deliver, you can expect a substantial reputation hit, and also a (lesser) fame hit. You may also decide to sell the package (they're often worth quite a bit) and this is likely to also lose you some reputation (depending on how talkative the fence that you use to sell it).

A particularly annoyed mission client may even offer a bounty on the heads of your characters. You'll also likely meet Bounty Hunter NPC gangs on the road and in the arena. Other human players might also decide to earn a few bucks by attacking you.

These 'special' bounties will gradually disappear over time, and you'll tend towards your 'correct' bounty, which will be offered by vigilante groups on the heads of high fame, low reputation (i.e. infamous) gang members.

If you succeed in a mission, the chance of gaining fame and reputation depends on how talkative the NPC client of the mission is. (As you'll see, these named NPC clients will be shown and you may use their talkativeness - or lack of - as a deciding factor in accepting their mission).

OK, bounties are now in place. Each time you kill a character with skill > 30 in a gang that has a bounty set on it, you receive the bounty payment and the opposing gang loses some fame.

NPC bounty hunters are coming soon... B)

Awesome! I was so much looking forward to this after all the teasing for the past few days ;)

I also managed to snag a some very profitable and low-bulk document delivery missions I can do with my racers so I'm very very happy.

Awesome! missions! :cyclops:
I'm assuming 'running' from a battle will not be a loss of fame on a carrier mission then?

Also, how does the bounty work? Is it an automatic payment for anyone killed above a skill of 30 or is there a bounty board somewhere? and how do I know if there's a bounty on some of my guys or not?

Yeah I need to know if that's one unit, or if it's a bunch of items I can split up. There is no way anything but a lorry can handle that. My van can't! :(

What I did was go to Jakes or somewhere I could see the cargo of my car and noticed there's a "deliver package" button.

Ok, done... I am a drug dealer now!

Anymay my reputation goes down of one point (from 10 to 9)

Is this ok? I was thinking that completitng missions your reputation raise up!
May be because there drugs in the package?

moralist! B)

Well.. not just paper. All kinds of stuff; it's just a general category for stuff that the general public want delivered.

It's just one item, and can't be split right now.

Actually, the only way right now is to deliver it from inside your car's cargo, you'll see a button. I will add an option to deliver it from your lockup also.

Most of the drugs would just be medicines and stuff, nothing 'immoral'. Actually I need to fix it so your rep. cannot drop from a courier mission, that was just an accident caused by the 'minimum rep.' for the mission being a negative number.

Ok thanks!  Power to the drugs (my cargo was not medicine but LSD) I am sure, I have tried it!

The new courier missions look pretty good. I've heard other people talk about it and so far they seem to be pretty decent. I haven't done any myself because I still have 0 reputation... can't seem to get it any higher after at least 5 scouts, I guess it's just my luck with witnesses.

I do think that there should be more courier jobs offered, though... what are other people's feelings on this? It just seems a bit low to me. That's all, thanks for adding the new feature!

Aye, fair enough. I was going to do so anyway, but I've just added code to keep them stocked up better.

Now my reputation is 8 (-2) what happend? I lose one point a day without doing nothing? Please tell me if is an error or not.

If is an error is quite annoying for example there is this mission:

Courier    'Dynamite' Dexter    Delivery of Drugs (bulk 92) to Elmsfield. Payment will be $3236. Requires a minimum reputation of 9 and a minimum fame of 250.    You cannot take this mission

I should do it with my REAL reputation, but seems that I lose 1 point of Rep a day... and I can't take this mission and the relative $3236....

uff quite frustrating if it is a bug....

Are you sure it wasn't just the weekly rollover drop?
Since everyone loses a bit of rep and fame on friday 1am.

So I lose 2 points? Or *sam* still have to raise my reputation of one point for the bug?

thanks!

The first point you lost was a bug, yes. The second one was the Friday morning update, which moves everyone's reputation, fame, and morale towards their 'normal' values (i.e. 0, 0, and 100).

Would be nice to expand the cargos a bit more! There is so much stuff out there that needs transports, like food, oil, water, clothes, engine parts, etc. Could be a bit more aside just mail and drugs.

And it would be cool if cargos could consist of different amounts and bulks. One cargo could be an engine part with bulk 600, another could consist of smaller parts (eg. 5 parts with bulk 100). So you could consider to carry more parts in smaller cars or put it into one big van.

just my 2 cents. :)

I really feel that the 48 hour time limit needs to be variable. A mission from somerset to the badlands truckstop in 48 hours is possible, but it cuts it close. For two reasons, I failed my first courier mission. The first is, I had to resize my van's gas tank (from 20 to 25) in order to make it anywhere. That took 13 hours. Then, I didn't wake up at 5 AM my time in order to get the van going right after it arrived in gateway. I lost another good 6 hours there. Add up a few more problems, and I missed my deadline by 5 hours. I imagine this is going to wreck the reputation that took me over a week to get (and it's only a measly 34 right now), meaning I won't get to do any more courier missions for a long time. Not only that, but the profit from the mission I might have made (something like 2500$) isn't going to come close to covering the repair costs of the three encounters I had to deal with to get there. (Over 3.5k).

Basically, I can see why you'd add courier missions--except, the y simply aren't working for me.

I already made the timelimit change, a day or two ago, but only for newly created missions.

I think the lower-paying courier missions probably need to be combined with other activities (either other missions, or trading) to make them profitable.

Is your mission already failed? If not, I'll add some extra hours to it for you.
Keizo

No, the mission isn't failed yet, but it will be in about 3 hours. The mission is the one involving the private documents in my van. It's due by 6-21, 1:00; my squad is going to get there at 6-21, 6:00 (server time, approximates). Thanks a lot Sam!
