I was looking for a replacement for the now-defunct Tactica Online, and found this game to my delight. :)

Unfortunately I can't remember which mac game website it was!

p.s. i was looking for a rogue-like game that might have car wars stuff in it lol.

and looking at all the ones it looked the most promising which it was and now i'm here.

I don't remember exactly, but I had been looking for any Car Wars like game. I even found the disk image for the old C64 "Autoduel" game and was playing that on my emulator. I also downloaded the old "Racing Destruction Set" to satisfy my fix.

Eventually, I ended up at mmorpg.com in the forums and saw some posts about Dark-Wind.

Only Dark-Wind fills the need now.

Interesting comments here.. lots of Car Wars people for sure. mmorpg.com is a strange place though, it's so negative, at least 75% of the posts on all games seem to be attacks.

MMORPG.com is a pretty hateful community.

But, ignoring the forums, it's a good source for finding out about MMORPGs coming out and their status of development.

Just skip the forums, go straight to Game List.

The Game List is where it's at! B)

Well mmorpg.com is not exactly an educated populace wanting to use their brains. :cyclops: I learned about Darkwind from Insidemacgames.com.

Macgamefiles

Found it here in February this year. Thanks to Sam, Toe and Speed got it working since I could not get the mail client I use to accept the temporary password, I used a yahoo address!..

There is always a way around problems with the internet! (With a MAC that is!) hehehe

I found it on Octopus Overlords forum. While the original posters don't seem to be playing much, they gave DW some nice praise. I was thinking of going back and reviving the thread, since those guys are some really pleasant folks and I am sure the bulk of them would like it if they put some time in the game...

Heyas, Jeansberg!

Thanks for showing me DW! I best steer away from OO Forums, since everytime I visit, it costs me $20-100 in entertainment funds. I read, get excited, and next thing I know I am in the car on the way to the store. Soon after that, I am a little bit poorer. Who says it is a free forum? heheh, just kidding.

Thanks again, and hopefully I'll see you on the track! We can trade paint and ammunition...

Sure. What's your handle at OO? Or do you only lurk. :)

seen it at mmorpg.com, good place to see the games that are available and keep up on whats interesting, forums are messy because everyone wants to get into a pissing contest over their games, stay away from those and you will be fine! i also saw the thread at wargamer.com.

Insidemacgames informed me about the Darkwind beta, which I promptly joined, played five turns of a race,  and then something happened which I can't quite recall (either the client crashed, or I did). This brief bout fo beta testing seem to have gained me an off-road buggy, which I plan to cling to like my own soul, and value above all other cars AND all my characters, just for the sake of being a beta reward car.

Many months later, the Auto Assault section of No Mutants Allowed featured something about Darkwind. Can't quite recall, but I'm guessing it was a screenshot. I came here, and I've never left.

So, I guess I can say it's mostly thanks to Auto Assault that I started playing Darkwind. I'm quite surprised that I'm one of the few AAers to have found my way here, but, hey, we don't want those lousy car FPS-car drivers here anyways! I spit on Auto Assault!

*gets nostalgic and starts checking out possibilities for private Auto Assault servers now that the game only has a few days left*

I was also an Auto Assault player, but I was terribly disappointed with it. I do not approve of cars that can cast spells.

The vast majority of MMOs disappoint me terribly. Auto Assault was one of the least disappointing, and so I did play it for two or three months.

But my love for the game does no deeper than that. And yes, spell-casting cars are a shifty bunch. Never trust them with your bank savings.

But the environs, man, the environs... The scorched earth never looked as good as it did in Auto Assault. Remains to be seen if Fallout 3 will beg to differ...

I came from ww.nma-fallout.com. been a huge fallout fan for the longest time, and I saw a screenshot which I couldn't tell what it was of, so I clicked to see it larger and got sent to the DW site. the rest is history.

You can blame vikKing for me being here. He posted over on MadMaxMovies.com. I'm an old school Car Wars player so this instantly caught my attention. Sure beats rolling dice and writing on vehicle sheets!
