So I've been running unarmed, 3.2l pickups between SS and Elms. I had quite a good run of auto-truced encounters. Recently I've been having alot more encounters, being chased 2 to 1 with at least 1 fast muscle car.

So on my first encounter outside the gates of Elmsfield I got hammered by the FL manhunters, losing one of my two courier pickups.

S182623

I felt completely hosed by the map. If they spawned in front, or behind, I had nowhere to run. I tried to get over the hill and maybe sneak my to town....

What could I of done better? I'm trying to learn this game, and it can be frustrating since you work hard to get your gang built up, so any feedback is appreciated.

FLMH and Butane can really give you a hard time and make you have a bad day... Try not to let it get to you and just know that sometimes the game hurts you worse than you hurt it. :)

At the point you started to go to the right to climb the really big hill, you should have gone to the left of the road into the lower, badlands-type terrain.

Your PU should have been OK navigating that at a decent speed, and beyond is some flat-ish terrain you could have used to put some distance between you and the enemy while they dink around in the rough terrain you just left.

Those flat-lands also lead to a couple of spots where the water is shallow enough to cross before your dudes demo from being submerged, with rough terrain that will slow down the pursuit on the other side.

If you had continued over the hill on the right that you started to climb there's a shallow spot in the water there as well (basically the same spot you get to by running to the left when the map wraps) that could have given you some distance while the pursuit navigated the hill.

The Gates of Elmsfield
(Taken from a story from the Darkwind Gazette)

This is arguably one of the most beautiful maps you`ll run on the continent of Evan!

The scenery surrounding this road is breathtaking! Be careful that you don`t get distracted looking out your windows instead of through your gun-sight because the piracy level around Elmsfield runs from the normal variety to the very high end baddies wanting a piece of your bumper!

Going off-road is an option that should be considered with GREAT care!
The many lakes dotting the landscape are filled with the rusting remains of hapless trade runners looking to escape their chasing foes after deciding to risk the off-road option, only to be surprised by the pond on the other side of the dune they were cresting at too high of a speed. You CAN outrun any pirates off-road, but be careful!.. Once your car gets into one of the many lakes/ponds on this map, getting it out is virtually impossible! Unless you have a snorkel and the speed to coast to the other side while underwater!

The road here is a nicely packed and well maintained wide road that has a few slight turns on it that just BEGS you to stand on the accelerator and drift the bends in the road like a Rally-Racer! Once you get up to speed, you might not want to take the bridge entrance to town because of the exhilaration you will no doubt be feeling negotiating the rare smooth surface found on the Gates of Elmsfield map.

140+ mph is not unheard of on this road!

Make sure you get a screen picture showing the speed you are traveling on this map to qualify for the Land Speed Record!

A while back I ran a series of single pick-up courier missions, documenting them in its own thread. Many of the events have me 'narrating' through chat to explain the tactics I was using, rational behind certain maneuvers, etc.

The thread is titled "the adventures of Joy Skeet" or some such, in the discussion forum. The experiment died off when I got distracted by some other things, and Joy Skeete died somewhere along the lines....

Some of my most memorable getaways were with 3.2 PUs.

Once jumped from one of the hills beside the shattered hill bridge ONTO the bridge.

I thought about running to the left. I felt that that lakes would really cut me off from any plausible escape routes in that direction.

BUt!

As a newbie, eyeballing distances, AI responses, how far you actually move across the map etc.. will come with exp.

Now that I know there are spots in the water I can cross.... gotta go back and figure that out. How deep can I go? what does it lok like etc.

Thanks.
