Is the whole recruiting thing totally random? With regards to the 5 day free ganger? I know they lie ... which to me means it's random as crap ![]() I only go for Best Character now, but has anyone got any feedback for getting better Strength, Dex and Speed guys? Random questions: 1) Does recruiting from different towns make any difference? Ie. Better guys from south towns? 2) Does the type looked for, improve potential character traits? Ie. Seek a mech .. more likely better Dex? Seek a hand gunner .. get better Strength? 3) High Fame / Rep have any influence? Ie. Higher fame .. better stats? 4) Does time recruited have any influence? Ie. Better recruits from the pool after the Friday training roll? Crappier recruits mid week or just before training roll? |

The short answer to all of your questions, except for your first sentence, I believe is "No"
In regards to question 3, with a higher fame there is less chance they will lie to you about their skills, but it is not a guarantee. If you are looking for a Gunner, they will probably have at least 20 Guns. I think the only guarantee with recruiting is that if you do not want a mutant, you will not get a mutant. Other than that, it is all a crapshoot. Supposedly if you wait 5 days for your free recruit, they will have a better chance of maxing out at a higher level than if you pay for recruits. I don’t think this is officially confirmed from Sam, just an observation from a number of players. |

You're not being punished. There's just only so many superstars around at once. You're still getting that same chance at a superstar once a week, like everyone else. |

Because good things come to those that wait, immediate gratification is the domain of the impatient person.

It's actually mostly to stop people from doing repeated hire-fire until they get a top character. You know the sort of people who somehow always seemed to "somehow" have D&D characters with a slew of stats at 16+?

If you can afford to slap down $1000 a pop 'interviewing' over and over to look for a guy who might be marginally better than the last...you should be able to. Along those lines: why not allow $5000, $10000, even $50000 'interview' fees, with, of course, increasing THE CHANCE/occurence of garnering a 'better' ganger who might have, instead of the standard 20, 25?
Or, a more 'experienced' ganger, whose other skills range between 10-20? ...with one standout skill, from 20-30? No big addition, and mostly longer-running gangs can afford to slap down that kind of money for disappointment...so the newbs can't take advantage of that, but veteran gangs can get gangers who will be able to contribute evenly with their other gangers quicker. I've had two 'free' gangers max at under 100. One at Driver [[ his '20' skill ]] at 84, and another with Gunner, at 75. So, haven't seen that 'extra' skill level thingie yet. But I trust ya Sam...if you say it's so...it must be so. Maybe if I kept my guys alive longer? Hmmmmm..... |

Hire/Fire cycle is still too easy IMHO. $1000 a pop is just too cheap. I'd like to see the cost double every time, then trend back to zero in 5 days (take 1/5th off the cost each day maybe). I know I churn and burn gangers when recruiting... it's too easy to not do it.
*Longo* Posted Dec 24, 2009, 6:30 pm |
Churning and burning has its risks. Ive spend 40k before and the guy I ended up with maxed between 100-150.... I do not believe this is broken so there is no need for a fix. I recuit maybe once every 3 months... money is nothing to me. But for a new guy trying to hire a few gangers , it would surely hurt him. |

Since this is a great opportunity for a money sink (and I know of at least two people who have admitted to going through 200+ new hires at a time looking for good stats even with the current system) I see nothing against letting people spend more for a chance for better characters. |

Ok, I understand the reasoning behind this. To prevent getting a whole bunch of exceptionally good characters easily. Is there nothing to get better str, dex and speeders? I'm not fussed about the skill level (guns, driver, etc). Getting between 21-25 at the start doesn't mean that much, especially when you've been around a while. I'm guessing that this is what the Recruiter spec improves?? You can train these guys in a week or 3 anyhow. What about the other end of the timeframe? Should waiting longer improve the selection criteria? Taking the time to examine, test and weed out the chaff? Sort of like graduate recruitment in the major corporations? The base stats are more important to me than the skill stats. Maybe it's the engineer in me ![]() At the beginning of my DW exploits, I was happy to get anyone. They didn't stay alive that long anyhow ![]() But now that I have been around a bit, I'm looking for quality gangers, to invest my hard earned game time. My gang has been around a bit now. Got myself a fleet of apaches, some cash, and some flasho weapons. Now some fresh meat quality graduate to man them... Do I want strength? Ok .. looking around Dex's there are 2 gangers: Ganger 1: built like a brick sh*thouse Ganger 2: looks like he flaps like a flag in a weak breeze .. Mr Burns style. Now say Ganger 2 got employed once by another gang, but got booted because he was crap. And he did 1 DR and improved his gunner skill to 21. 5 real time days laters (or many weeks later).... Obviously I recruit Ganger 2 because he's the Best Avail. NOOOOOOOOOOO!! But what happened to Ganger 1?!? He was the one I really wanted !! |

I know that sometimes you can recruit people with skills upwards of 50.
Sometimes there's nicked characters there in the tavern! As for str/dex/spd... I don't know about that. |
