Proper floating IM windows that persist between lobby and 3D game, and are minimizable. W00t!

now this is a great, i like the chat not being polluted by orange text, just one incy wincy thing Mr. Sam, any chance to have a minimised window flash or change colour when an im is received. bet you hate my suggestions huh

Works F-ing great, THANKS!
One thing, in events, the minimized windows are blocked by the "Steering wheel" panel |

Can you not move the steering panel?
*Grograt* gary.r.horder@gmail.com Posted Nov 12, 2009, 7:37 pm |
yep it can be dragged | ||||||
*Wolfsbane* Posted Nov 12, 2009, 7:53 pm |
These things are excellent. Couple of small oddities:
The windows are resizable, but not in a good way The /r command doesn't work any more - it just tells the other player their own name (which is odd). |

Ugh! This is just another window polluting the screen. Would be nice if you could select to use this or not in the preferences. The only advantage I see is that you would not lose an incoming IM while loading up an event, but how often does that happen anyway?
What happens if you are IMing with more than one person? Multiple boxes? Just my $0.02 55555 |

Minimize them? | ||||||
*Marc5iver* marcg@comcast.net Posted Nov 12, 2009, 9:56 pm |
Can't use them if they are minimized |
||||||

I love them in the lobby, but during an event they litter way to much...
On my comp they also minimize behind the steering wheel... and that looks kind of sloppy |

I hate change, so I am naturally not fond of the popup im window. It's probably not as bad as I think.
*Marc5iver* marcg@comcast.net Posted Nov 13, 2009, 5:54 am |
When in an event, if someone IMs you, not only do you have the popup box, but after replying to the IM, you then have to click on your car twice to get the focus back on it.
Before all you had to do was hit "t" /r, type your reply and after hitting enter the focus was back on your car. Another $.03 for a total of 5ive from me |

Yeah, I was thinking that too
more importantly, (i) you can have multiple IM chats on the go at a time, (ii) each with the chat all in one place rather than scattered through various chat boxes and interleaved with other stuff like public chat, (iii) replying to any of them is easy rather than only replying to the latest one being easy (and subject to occasional errors)
yes |

This is the only place I have ever used IM, and it still freaks my son out every time he sees me using it. Others who are more experienced with IM might prefer the popup box but I definitely prefer the old way with everything in the same window. I have messed up in replying a couple of times by forgetting to type /r first but no big deal to me.
If you can make it a preference I would be very happy, but no matter what happens, it isn't going to drive me away from the game. |

*sam* Posted Nov 13, 2009, 8:28 am |
No worries, I'll make it optional, very easily done..
edit: making separate preferences for lobby and 3D game so you can use them in lobby only, if preferred |

I love you man! |
||||||
*sam* Posted Nov 13, 2009, 9:14 am |
OK, with Scripts v.269:
Preferences now allow you to disable popup IM windows in either the lobby or the 3D game. There's also a new button in the Options window linking to the Preferences window, so you can get at Prefs from the lobby! I also fixed the /r bug |

Thanks for the change Sam! One thing though, if clicking on another player's name in the "Users in lobby" list to send them another IM , the popup box still has the text from the last IM to them. Anyway to have that cleared out?
Again, not a big deal as I would usually only do this the first time sending them an IM. |

Please don't! That's the best feature as far as I'm concerned.
Maybe an option off a right click or something. |

*Marc5iver* marcg@comcast.net Posted Nov 13, 2009, 5:38 pm |
Wolfsbane, This is only if using the option to not have the new popup box for IMs. The popup box I am talking about is when you click on a players name and select IM. No need for the previous message to be there as it is in the lobby message in orange text. |
