Born in the post-apocalyptic wastes of Tennessee, he saw action in the local race wars as a surgeon. Following the wars he traveled to Neo-California during the Chrome Rush but was unsuccessful as a prospector, later drifting around California as a gambler and as a doctor at times for several years. In 2069 he was serving time in Somerset Prison for robbery when he met Butcher of Boozetown gang members and successfully escaped several weeks later. Hodges joined the Butcher gang and rose in the ranks to become leader of operations and the right hand man of Bill `The Butcher` Cutting.
